An original, handmade porcelain vase with a wide opening perfect for displaying small flowers or buds. I mixed and wedged green mason stain into the clay prior to forming the vase. (Please note, because the stain is mixed in by hand, the color pigmentation will be varied). This piece was wheel-thrown. A whimsical image of magnolias blooming is carved into the surface that was inspired by my visit to New York City's Central Park one spring. The surface design technique originated in Korea and is known as mishima, in which I incised the drawing into leather-hard clay and then inlayed a black slip (liquid clay) into the illustrated lines. The magnolia flowers and blossoms are then hand-painted on. A clear glaze is applied over the entire piece, except for the base.
Dimensions: This is a perfect vase for displaying a small bouquet.
Size is approximately 4 in (10 cm) tall with a 4.5 in (11.5 cm) diameter at the rim.
** Locally supplied fine porcelain clay and glazes
Please note: Handmade ceramic wares by their very nature are unique, inconsistent and may have some imperfections that do not detract from the beauty and function of the piece. Instead, these are indications of the maker's hand and I encourage you to embrace them. If multiple quantities of this piece is available, they may be similar but they won't be identical, as each one of them is individually made.
Please send me a message if you'd like to enquire about ordering multiple quantities, to order this piece in another of my botanical designs, or to order this magnolia design on stained green porcelain on another of my wheel-thrown forms.
