What people are saying: "I just wanted to say how amazing the mug I purchased from you is. The texture, size, shape and everything else about it are perfect. The colours are so cheerful and I smile everytime I use it (so multiple times a day). Thanks for making such wonderful and functional art!"
This is an original, handmade porcelain coffee mug or tea cup that was wheel-thrown, and comfortably holds a generous 12 oz (350ml). A botanical illustration of iris flowers is hand carved into the surface using a technique that originated in Korea known as mishima, in which I incised the drawing into leather-hard clay and then inlayed a black slip (liquid clay) into the illustrated lines. The flowers and leaves are then hand-painted on. A clear glaze is applied over the entire piece, except for the base.
Approx. 4in (10 cm) tall, 3.5in (8.5 cm) diameter plus an extra 1.5in (3.5 cm) for the handle.
Comfortably holds a generous 12 fluid oz, or 350ml.
** Made from locally sourced materials
** Food safe glazes
** Dishwasher safe (as long as it's loaded carefully. Hand washing your porcelain items will help them last longer)
** Microwave safe
** Handmade ceramic wares by their very nature are unique, inconsistent and may have some imperfections that do not detract from the beauty and function of the piece. Instead, these are indications of the maker's hand and I encourage you to embrace them.
OTHER INTERESTING INFORMATION:
I have an engineering background, so my preference is to create pieces based on good fundamental design principles that are concerned with good ergonomics for functional wares.
Each piece I make is unique and one of a kind. Please keep this in mind when ordering sets of multiple pieces - they will not be identical, but they will be similar. In fact, your piece may not be the same one shown in these images but it will look very similar to it.
Please send me a message if you'd like to enquire about ordering multiple quantities, to order this piece or other handmade mugs in another of my botanical designs, or to order this iris design on another of my wheel-thrown forms.
