What people are saying: "Your botanical illustrations are so bold and cheerful"

**This particular piece is marked down because there is a small flaw on the under side of the plate. During the second kiln firing, a tiny speck of glaze that was on the kiln shelf stuck onto the underside of this plate which caused a small portion of it to break off. This does not detract from the plate's safety, or usability in any way.**

This is a handmade porcelain dinner plate that was wheel thrown. Yellow mason stain was hand-wedged into the fine porcelain clay before forming the piece. My plates are formed in one piece, with a flat bottom, so you'll find they are light, well balanced, and easy to hold.

A whimsical image of bright and bold king protea flowers is carved into the surface using a technique that originated in Korea known as mishima. I incised the drawing into leather-hard clay and then inlayed a black slip (liquid clay) into the illustrated lines. So all the black line drawings that you see are actually clay, not paint. The protea bracts and leaves are then hand-painted on, and a clear glaze is applied over the entire piece, except for the base.

In my native Australia, proteas are common and often used in bridal bouquets because of their large, bold and beautiful flowering head. King Proteas are also the national flower for South Africa. They are tough and hardy plants that can survive in harsh conditions.

This handmade dinner plate is a perfect size for multiple uses. Individually, it makes an attractive serving dish, or order your own collection of plates for a unique and lovely tableware setting.

Dimensions: This dinner plate is approximately 11 inches (28cm) in diameter, and approximately 1 inch tall.

** Locally supplied fine porcelain clay and glazes
** Glazes used are food-safe
** Microwavable and dishwasher proof (although please load it carefully - hand-washing is recommended to prolong the life of the piece)
** Suitable for both cold or hot contents

Please note: Handmade ceramic wares by their very nature are unique, inconsistent and may have some imperfections that do not detract from the beauty and function of the piece. Instead, these are indications of the maker's hand and I encourage you to embrace them. Your piece may not look identical to the one shown in the image, but it will be similar. That's because every piece is handmade and unique.

This handmade dinner plate makes a perfect housewarming or newlywed gift, but is also wonderful for those of us who are celebrating the Holidays at home this year.

Please send me a message if you'd like to enquire about ordering multiple quantities, to order this piece or other serving dishes in another of my botanical designs, or to order this king protea on yellow porcelain design on another of my wheel-thrown forms.
